COVID19 vaccine approved for 5 to 11 years!

Dear Pinon Family Practice parents/patients,

At long last, it's the kids' turn!  On November 2, 2021 Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommended Pfizers COVID19 vaccination for use in children aged 5 to 11 years.  the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) published its updated recommendations, including strong recommendation for children in this age group to receive the vaccine.

We were able to pre-order Pfizer’s approved vaccine for this age group several weeks ago and received our order approval as well as shipment confirmation from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE).  We will have the vaccine delivered to our office by Friday, November 5, 2021.

We will be hosting walk-in clinics on Saturday, November 6th and 13th from 9am to 1pm for all current Pinon Family Practice patients ages 5+.  These clinics will include flu shots and booster COVID19 shots for qualifying patients as well.  There are no contraindications or co-administration concerns so we are vaccinating COVID19 and flu at the same time, different arms.

Parents:  please feel free to reach out to your child’s primary care provider here at Pinon or we recommend reading The Science Behind COVID19 Vaccines; Parent FAQs as this may answer questions you might have.  The following video links are also informative.  COVID19 and Kids:  How mRNA vaccines work and How mRNA COVID19 vaccines were developed or Pediatricians on COVID vaccines for kids and Pediatricians answer your COVID19 vaccine questions.  Pfizer COVDI19 vaccine for all age groups is a two-dose series with 21 days between the 1st and 2nd dose so you will have to plan accordingly.

As your trusted medical professionals, we do strongly encourage all eligible patients to receive and complete the COVID19 vaccine series, including the booster dose if/when indicated.  Moderna is approved for 18+.  Pfizer “purple cap” is approved for 12+ and Pfizer “orange cap” is approved for 5-11 years.

For qualifying patients 18+, you can receive a booster dose of either vaccine (Pfizer “purple cap” or Moderna), regardless of your initial completed series, including J&J.  For Pfizer and Moderna, you must be 6 or more months from completing the initial series and 2 months from J&J.  For more information about the Pfizer and Moderna COVID19 vaccines, please visit our website covid19 or visit the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE)
